Welcome!

My name is Jacob Newman. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah.  I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in English language and linguistics and minors in TESOL and Spanish in April 2014. In fall 2014, I entered the MA TESOL program at BYU. I worked with Dr. Dee Gardner on my thesis about academic vocabulary frequency in textbooks. I graduated in August 2016.

I have taught ESL/EFL for many years, beginning as a volunteer missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bangkok, Thailand from 2009 to 2011. Since returning from my volunteer service in 2011, I have worked at the English Language Center in Provo, Utah; Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah; and The English Skills Learning Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. I enjoy teaching reading, writing, and grammar in particular, but I have taught all skill areas and a variety of levels.

This online portfolio displays some examples of my professional work. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jacob.newman@gmail.com.
